How do you choose the right power supply for your telewash or softwash system?
More and more window cleaners and facade cleaners are switching to telewash and softwash systems. These systems offer many advantages over traditional methods. They are more ergonomic which makes them better for the environment. An important part of these systems are the batteries.
There are two popular options: the relay and the lithium battery. In this blog we explain exactly what these options entail, what the differences are and what advantages and disadvantages they have.
What is a relay?
A relay is a component used to separate two batteries. It contains a coil that makes a contact for a large current when a small control current is applied. A relay battery is often used to combine a starter battery and a service battery.
How does relay work with telewash & softwash systems
The relay ensures that the telewash battery and other parts of the telewash system are supplied with power from the car battery. When the ignition key is turned and the car is turned on, 12V current goes to the relay coil.
As soon as the ignition key is turned off again, the coil voltage of the relay disappears. The core releases and breaks contact. As a result, there is no longer a power supply from the car battery to the telewash system. In this way, the relay ensures that the telewash system is only supplied with power when the car is running and prevents the car battery from draining.
GO FOR RELAYWhat is a lithium battery?
A lithium battery is a rechargeable battery that uses lithium. Lithium is a light metal that provides high energy density and light weight. There are different types of lithium batteries, such as li-ion and LiFePo4.
- ✔ Light weight
- ✔ Compact
- ✔ High energy density
- ✔ Little self-discharge
- ✔ Long lifespan (up to 2000 charging cycles)
- ✔ Fast charging
- ✔ No memory effect
The disadvantages are the higher purchase prices. Lithium batteries also do not work well below 0°C.
How does lithium work with Telewash and Softwash systems
The lithium battery is charged with a special lithium battery charger. When the battery is fully charged, it can be connected to the telewash system. The lithium battery then supplies 12V power (depending on the type of battery) to the fuses and then to the telewash pump and other parts.
GO FOR LITHIUMDouble lithium battery
There are also options to use two lithium batteries for the Telewash Systems. This can be useful if you want to use double pumps and reels (and of course useful for two-person systems). This way the Telewash System still retains enough power to work all day long.
